Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides direct care to stable patients within fast-paced Mental Health settings
  • Practices within the Standards of Nursing Practice of the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Practices within the standards outlined by Carecor and our client hospitals
  • Functions under the supervision of the facility Charge Nurse
  • Assesses accurately patient health status, and anticipates and responds to potentially life threatening changes in patient health status
  • Contributes to positive healthcare team dynamics
  • The main functions include but are not limited to:
  • Assessment
  • Intervention
  • Patient Education
  • Medication Administration (oral, injection, intravenous)
  • Maintenance of intravenous lines and infusion equipment
  • Wound care and treatment
  • Oxygen therapy

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Current registration and in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Registered Practical Nurse Diploma
  • Minimum of 1,500 hours of experience in Mental Health acute care settings within the past two (2) years
  • Proof of competency in Mental Health skills
  • Access to a car is an asset to travel to multiple healthcare facilities
  • Excellent critical thinking skills
  • Ability to multi-task, organize and prioritize care
  • Ability to perform all physical duties associated with this position, including but not limited to pushing, pulling, lifting, assisting patients, etc.
  • Proof of current immunization for measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (MMVR)
  • Proof of negative TB skin test within the past one (1) year or negative chest x-ray within the past five (5) years
  • Proof of current CPR (BCLS-HCP)
  • Proof of N95 Mask Fit Test Certificate with a date of issue in the last two years
  • Completion of Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps Training Program
  • Computer skills required for accessing intranet, electronic patient records, etc.
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing education within the past two (2) years with emphasis placed on courses/conferences related to Registered Practical Nurse role
  • Ability to work independently
  • Must be confident and adaptable to working in a variety of clinical settings and facilities
  • Able to handle stressful environment in a positive manner
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent attendance and punctuality
