Duties and Responsibilities:

Working in acute care hospitals, the Personal Support Worker (PSW) will:

  • Assists patients with all aspects of personal care, patient observation, promoting patient safety, assisting with mobility, companionship and support.
  • Practice within the standards outlined by Carecor and our Client Hospitals
  • Function under the supervision of the facility Charge Nurse.
  • Contribute to positive healthcare team dynamics. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PSW certificate from:
  • an Ontario Community College program, or
  • a private Career College in Ontario that is registered with and approved by the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities with successful completion of the Final Examination administered by the National Association of Career Colleges (NACC), or
  • an approved Ontario Board of Education Program
  • Must have clinical experience as a PSW within the past two (2) years. (Recent acute care hospital experience within the past two (2) years is preferred.)
  • Access to a car is an asset to travel to multiple healthcare facilities within an area
  • Proof of current immunization for measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (MMRV)
  • Proof of negative TB skin test within the past one (1) year or negative chest x-ray within the past five (5) years
  • Proof of current CPR (BCLS-HCP) for Healthcare Providers.
  • Proof of N95 Mask Fit Test Certificate with a date of issue in the last two years
  • Completion of Worker Health and Safety Awareness in 4 Steps Training Program
  • Computer skills required (e.g., basic keyboarding skills, email, accessing and completing on-line training).
  • Demonstrated commitment to continuing education within the past two (2) years with emphasis placed on courses/conferences related to personal support worker role.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Proof of competency of relevant clinical skills.
  • Must be confident and adaptable to working in a variety of clinical settings and facilities.
  • Able to handle stressful environment in a positive manner.
  • Multi-tasking and time management skills related to organizing and prioritizing care.
  • Excellent communication skills.
